Yes, you can rent a whole chalet for 10 people with a private spa in the Vosges: Chalet de la Poirie, in Dommartin-lès-Remiremont, is one of them, under 30 kilometres from the Gérardmer and La Bresse ski areas. It combines two apartments that are always let together, with two kitchens, two bathrooms and beds for 10, and the nightly price covers the entire chalet.

Before you start comparing listings, one thing worth knowing: "sleeps 10" rarely means "10 beds in bedrooms". That is true here, as it is almost everywhere, and it is the first thing to check. This guide sets out our own sleeping arrangements without dressing them up, the points to check on any large group chalet listing, and worked totals taken from our published rates.

Sleeping

Who sleeps where: the real layout for 10

The chalet has two proper double bedrooms with a door, one on each floor. The other six places are in the living areas: one XXL bunk bed (two 90 x 200 cm berths) in the ground-floor living room, and a large sofa bed on each floor. The bunks were chosen to suit adults as well as teenagers and children: at two metres long, they are not makeshift beds for little ones.

In practice, with 10 guests, four sleep in bedrooms and six in the living rooms. For a family with children or teenagers, three generations travelling together or a group of friends used to sharing, that works very well. If your group is five couples who each want a door that closes, it is better to know now: that is not how this house is laid out, and no owner should let you find out on arrival.

  • Ground floor (65 m², rated five stars by the local tourist board): one double bedroom, one XXL bunk bed (two berths) in the living room, one large sofa bed, a bathroom with toilet
  • Upper floor (about 50 m²): one double bedroom, one large sofa bed, a bathroom with steam shower, whirlpool bath and toilet, a 10 m² balcony
  • For babies: a cot and a high chair are provided
  • Linen: household linen is provided for every bed, so there is nothing to pack

An arrangement that often works: one couple or the grandparents in the upstairs bedroom, next to the bathroom with the steam shower and whirlpool bath; parents of young children in the downstairs bedroom with the cot; the teenagers on the bunks; and the sofa beds for whoever goes to bed last.

8 questions to ask about any chalet for 10

Listings for large chalets in the Vosges all look alike: hot tub photos, a bed count, "close to the slopes". What actually matters for a group of 10 is in the detail. Here is the checklist we would use ourselves, with our own answers.

  • Is the whole property yours? Some rentals share an entrance, garden or spa with another unit. Here: Yes, both floors are always let together, never separately
  • How many real bedrooms? "Sleeps 10" often counts sofa beds. Here: 2 double bedrooms, 6 places in the living rooms
  • How many bathrooms? One bathroom for 10 means a queue every morning. Here: 2 bathrooms with toilet, one per floor
  • One kitchen or two? Cooking for 10 in one kitchen slows everything down. Here: 2 fitted kitchens, one with an American-style fridge
  • How many cars can park? A group of 10 often arrives in several cars. Here: Private, secure parking for 5 cars
  • Is the spa private? Some hot tubs are shared or booked by time slot. Here: Spa, sauna, steam shower and whirlpool bath for your group only
  • Is the price per property or per person? Per-person extras change the whole budget. Here: Nightly price for the chalet, plus 30 € a night for the 5th to 8th guest
  • Is the capacity firm? "10 plus a spare mattress" usually means a sleepless night. Here: 10 people, never more

Add two practical questions: check-in time (here from 5 pm, self check-in, which helps when cars arrive at different times) and pets (welcome, just let us know when you book). It is all in our practical information.

Living together

Two floors, two kitchens: 10 people without tripping over each other

For a large group, floor area matters less than the way it is divided. Here, 115 m² of living space is split between two complete apartments, each with its own kitchen, bathroom and lounge area. In the morning, you share two bathrooms instead of one; in the evening, part of the group can cook dinner downstairs while others make dessert upstairs.

The large ground-floor kitchen is the one for group meals: an American-style fridge with water dispenser, oven, mini oven and microwave. The upstairs kitchen has an oven, a microwave, a gas hob and a fridge. For food shopping, supermarkets are 2 kilometres away and Remiremont holds its market on Tuesdays.

Outside, the 80 m² terrace, level with the ground floor, works as a third room: barbecue, a pergola with a television, the hot tub and the sauna, all under patio heaters that keep it pleasant even in winter. Upstairs, the lounge with Canal+ and Netflix and the 10 m² balcony give anyone who wants a quiet moment somewhere to go. One honest point: this is a family home with neighbours, not a party venue. A group coming for a loud night until dawn will be in the wrong place.

Budget

How much is a chalet for 10 in the Vosges? Our real totals

Our price is per night for the whole chalet and stays the same from 2 to 4 guests. From the 5th to the 8th guest, add 30 € per person per night. On top come a cleaning fee of 100 € per stay and the tourist tax of 1.60 € per person per night. Here is what that means for a two-night weekend (Friday and Saturday), in low season (140 € a weekend night: January, March and November, excluding the Venetian carnival and school holidays) and mid season (165 € a weekend night: February, April and October, among others).

6 guests519.20 €86.53 €569.20 €94.87 €
8 guests645.60 €80.70 €695.60 €86.95 €

The breakdown for 8 guests in mid season: 2 nights at 165 € (330 €), 4 extra guests at 30 € for 2 nights (240 €), cleaning (100 €) and tourist tax for 8 people over 2 nights (25.60 €). A pet adds 25 € per stay; the 300 € deposit is returned after your stay.

For 9 or 10 guests, our published rates do not set a price: ask for a quote by choosing "9 to 10" guests on the booking request form and we will reply within 24 hours. During the holidays and long weekends listed in the rates (Easter, Whitsun, July, August, Christmas holidays and so on), the price rises to 160 € a weeknight and 200 € a weekend night, with a 3-night minimum. More examples, midweek and in the holidays, are in our article on the price of a spa chalet weekend.

Wellness

Hot tub, sauna, steam room: private, even with 10

This is often what tips a group towards a chalet rather than a standard group gîte. Here, the hot tub (a heated outdoor spa under the pergola), the sauna, the steam shower and the upstairs whirlpool bath are for your group alone. No time slots, no other guests: the chalet is let exclusively, wellness area included.

With 10 people, that changes how the evening runs: while some move between the sauna and the hot tub on the terrace, others enjoy the steam shower or the whirlpool bath upstairs in the warm. Everything is described on our spa and wellness page, and our article on chalets with a private hot tub covers the questions worth asking on that point.

Location

A chalet near Gérardmer for 10: what 25 km really means

Many groups start by searching for a chalet in Gérardmer. To be clear: Chalet de la Poirie is not in Gérardmer. It is in Dommartin-lès-Remiremont, about 25 kilometres from Lake Gérardmer, with the Gérardmer and La Bresse-Hohneck ski areas less than 30 kilometres away. So you drive to the slopes rather than skiing from the door.

In return, a group of 10 gains some very practical things: Remiremont station 3 kilometres away for anyone arriving by train, shops 2 kilometres away, a restaurant 900 metres away, the voie verte cycle and walking trail 30 metres from the door, and private parking for 5 cars on site. For ideas on what to do, see the area and our year-round guide to the Vosges.

  • Send your request: dates, number of guests (1 to 4, 5 to 8 or 9 to 10) and, if you are bringing a pet, say so

  • Minimum stay: 2 nights outside holidays, 3 nights during holidays, long weekends and New Year

Frequently asked questions

What we're asked most often

Can 11 or 12 people stay at the chalet?

No. The chalet sleeps up to 10 people, never more. That capacity is confirmed by the local tourist board and set so that everyone sleeps well. If your group is larger, this chalet will not suit you.

How many bedrooms are there for 10 people?

Two double bedrooms, one on each floor. The other beds are one XXL bunk bed (two 90 x 200 cm berths) in the ground-floor living room and a large sofa bed on each floor. Details are on the chalet page.

How much does it cost for 10 people?

Our published rates go up to 8 guests: a nightly price for the chalet, 30 € a night for the 5th to 8th guest, a 100 € cleaning fee and a tourist tax of 1.60 € per person per night. For 9 or 10 guests, ask for a quote using the booking form: we reply within 24 hours.

Can we rent just one of the two apartments?

No. The ground floor and the upper floor are always let together, never separately. That is what guarantees a fully private chalet, with the terrace and wellness area reserved for your group.

Is the chalet in Gérardmer?

No. It is in Dommartin-lès-Remiremont, about 25 kilometres from Lake Gérardmer; the Gérardmer and La Bresse-Hohneck ski areas are under 30 kilometres away.
